MeritMessage ("we", "our", or "us") provides a single-purpose communication rewriting service. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how long we keep it.
1. Information We Collect
a. User-Provided Content
- Text you paste into the app for rewriting.
- We process this content to generate your rewrite. We do not create accounts or store your original text as a permanent profile.
b. Technical & Usage Data
- IP address (used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security)
- Character counts and request metadata (for example: intent and tone selection)
- Limited analytics events (for example: rewrite requested, purchase completed, export downloaded)
c. Payment Information
- Payments are processed by Stripe.
- We do not store credit card numbers.
- Stripe may provide us transaction metadata (such as session ID and payment status) needed to fulfill your purchase.
2. How We Use Information
- Generate message rewrites and deliver exports
- Process payments and fulfill purchases
- Enforce usage limits and prevent abuse
- Improve product performance and reliability
3. Data Retention
- Rewrite output: Stored temporarily (up to 24 hours) so you can refresh the success page and download exports. It expires automatically.
- Session metadata: Stored temporarily (up to 7 days) to help match purchases to requests and reduce fraud/abuse.
- Export/download logs: Stored temporarily (generally up to 24 hours, and in some cases up to 7 days) to prevent repeated downloads and for basic security auditing.
- Analytics: Retained according to PostHog’s retention settings.
4. Third-Party Services
MeritMessage uses the following services:
- Stripe (payment processing)
- PostHog (limited analytics)
- Redis / Upstash (temporary session, rate limit, and export tracking)
- OpenAI (text generation)
5. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls and security-focused configuration.
6. Your Rights
- Request information about what data may be associated with your purchase/session
- Request deletion of associated metadata where applicable
